These fine motor skills worksheets help young children build the hand and finger control they need for everyday tasks and, later, for writing. Every page is free and printable as a PDF. Through colouring, drawing shapes and gentle tracing, children practise holding a crayon, staying within an area and making steady, deliberate marks.

Fine motor skills develop through lots of small movements: gripping, pressing, colouring and tracing. For toddlers, simply filling a shape with colour is good practice. As children grow, copying shapes and following lines asks for a little more control. There is no test here, just plenty of friendly ways to strengthen little hands.

Let your child choose what feels fun. A two year old might scribble colour across a whole picture, while a five year old traces shapes neatly and stays inside the lines. Each PDF prints fresh, so you can return to a favourite page whenever your child wants more.

Shapes Worksheets

ABC Tracing Worksheets

Questions parents ask

Fine motor skills are the small, precise movements of the hands and fingers, like gripping a crayon, colouring or doing up a button. They develop steadily through play and practice over the early years.

Writing asks for steady hand and finger control. Colouring, tracing and drawing shapes build that strength and coordination first, so a pencil feels easier to manage when your child is ready to write.

Yes. Toddlers can start with colouring pages, where filling a picture with colour is great practice. There is no need to stay inside the lines at this age.

No. Every page is a free PDF to print at home. You will just need crayons or colouring pencils and some paper.
