Letter M Tracing Worksheet for Preschool Kids

The letter M looks just like two mountains standing side by side, which makes it a delight for children to trace. On this worksheet your child practises the uppercase M, which has two tall lines with a pointed valley dipping down between them, and the lowercase m, which is a small line with two gentle humps like little hills. The dotted guides help your child draw the up-and-down shape of the mountains smoothly.

As your child traces, say the sound “m” as in moon and mango. This is a soft humming sound made with the lips closed, the kind of sound children make when something tastes yummy, and pairing it with the shape helps the letter stick. The picture cues of the moon, a mango and a mouse give friendly words to name, perhaps with a quiet squeak for the mouse.

This worksheet is made for ages 2 to 7. Younger children love the up-down-up-down rhythm of M, while older children write M words and practise the two even humps of lowercase m. Tracing M builds control of repeated strokes and teaches children to keep shapes the same size. Encourage your child to say “down, up the mountain, down the valley, up and down again” so the rhythm of the strokes becomes a fun chant.
