ABC Tracing Worksheet

Letter P Tracing Worksheet for Preschool Kids

The letter P is a tall line with a single round bump at the top, like a balloon on a stick or a flag on a pole. On this worksheet your child practises the uppercase P, which has a straight line down with one bump near the top, and the lowercase p, which has its round belly at the bottom and a line that drops below the writing line. The dotted guides help your child draw the straight stroke and the round shape smoothly.

As your child traces, say the sound “p” as in pig and pen. This is a soft popping sound made by gently puffing the lips, and pairing it with the shape helps the letter stick. The picture cues of a pig, a pen and a peacock give playful words to name, perhaps with an oink for the pig.

This worksheet is made for ages 2 to 7. Younger children enjoy the simple line and bump of big P, while older children write P words and practise lowercase p, whose tail drops below the line. Tracing P builds control of a straight stroke joined to a curve and teaches children that some letters hang below the line. Encourage your child to say “line down, then a bump at the top” for the big P, keeping the bump nice and round.
