ABC Tracing Worksheet

Letter K Tracing Worksheet for Preschool Kids

The letter K is a lively letter that looks like it is kicking its legs out to the side. On this worksheet your child practises the uppercase K, which has a tall straight line with two slanted lines branching out to the right, and the lowercase k, which is built the same way but smaller. The dotted guides help your child draw the straight line first and then add the two kicking legs at just the right angle.

As your child traces, say the sound “k” as in kite and key. This is the same crisp sound as the hard C, made at the back of the mouth, and pairing it with the shape helps the letter stick. The picture cues of a kite, a key and a king give cheerful words to name, perhaps with a hop for the kangaroo.

This worksheet is made for ages 2 to 7. Younger children enjoy drawing the slanted legs of K, while older children write K words and notice that K and C can share a sound. Tracing K builds control of straight and slanted strokes together, which is excellent practice for hand coordination. Encourage your child to say “line down, then kick out and kick out” so the two slanted legs meet neatly in the middle of the tall line.

Frequently Asked Questions

K makes the crisp “k” sound as in kite and key, the same hard sound as C, formed at the back of the mouth.

Both slanted legs should touch the tall line in the middle, so trace the straight line first, then add each leg.

Both can make the hard “k” sound, which is a lovely chance to show your child that different letters can share a sound.
