Semicircle Shape Worksheet for Kids
A semicircle is exactly half of a circle. If you take a round shape and slice it straight across the middle, each piece is a semicircle. It has one curved side, like the top of a dome, and one straight side along the flat bottom, which makes it a friendly mix of curved and straight.
When children aged 2 to 7 trace a semicircle, they practise drawing a smooth curve and then a straight line to close it off. Combining these two movements is wonderful for fine motor control and helps them understand how shapes can be split into parts.
Semicircles are charming to spot. A rainbow arching over the sky, a half moon, a folding hand fan, a round bowl seen from the side, an arched bridge and a folded taco all show the semicircle shape. Drawing a rainbow together is a colourful way to learn it.

Frequently Asked Questions
A semicircle is half of a circle. It has one curved side and one straight side, the kind of shape you get if you cut a round biscuit straight across the middle.
A full circle is round all the way with no straight edges, while a semicircle is just half, so it has one curved edge and one flat, straight edge.
A rainbow is a beautiful semicircle in the sky. You can also cut a round roti or biscuit in half to show two semicircles side by side.
