બારાખડી — Gujarati Barakhadi Worksheets (બારાખડી)

Barakhadi is the set of combinations formed when a Gujarati consonant joins each of the twelve matras (vowel signs) — for example ક, કા, કિ, કી, કુ, કૂ, કે, કૈ, કો, કૌ, કં, કઃ. Learning it is the key step from letters to reading words.

Each consonant has twelve forms, one for each vowel sign (matra), including the plain consonant with the inherent 'a' sound.

Start with ક (ka). Once your child can read and write all twelve forms of one consonant, the same pattern applies to every other consonant.

It suits children roughly aged 4 to 7 who already recognise the basic consonants and are ready to combine them with vowels.
